UPCOMING WORKSHOPS IN LONDON
2025

Moving into Winter

Slowing down and turning inwards for winter

This workshop will include a mix of yoga poses, somatic movement (from Hanna Somatics) and some time in stillness and meditation.

Just as the trees shed their leaves at this time of year, revealing a clarity of structure, we will focus on finding our own inner stability and clarity.  Carving out space for ourselves to begin to rest and turn inwards, taking our inspiration from nature at this time of year.

November Workshop - 'Muscle & Bone'

Picture

This workshop will focus on yoga practice that is stabilising and strengthening.  How can our time on the yoga mat help us build muscle tone and protect bone density as we get older?  How can we make sure that our yoga practice is safe and appropriate after a diagnosis of osteoporosis or osteopenia?  This workshop is designed for anyone who is currently working with low bone density, those interested in learning tools for healthy aging and anyone who enjoys the strength and stability aspects of hatha yoga.  Whilst this theme may be of particular interest to post-menopausal women, the workshop aims to offer value to yogis of all ages and genders.  Everybody is welcome.

As always we will work slowly and carefully, building up to more challenging poses in stages.

If you have particular concerns or questions please get in touch with Anna directly.

MAY WORKSHOP

'Standing Our Ground'

Book May Workshop Here
Saturday 18th May 2-4:30pm

North London Buddhist Centre
72 Holloway Road
N7 8JG

Have you ever noticed that you feel stronger in your sense of self and your values following time spent on your yoga mat?  Perhaps you notice that you are more able to advocate for yourself and hold firm on decisions, or that you are less concerned with others' opinions after a period of regular yoga practice.

The theme of 'standing our ground' will be held as a backdrop during this practical session.  Including plenty of standing poses, but also time sitting and lying on the ground, deepening our sense of connection with the earth.  The more we can gain an embodied sense of growing our roots downwards, the more we gain stability in the body and perhaps more steadiness of mind at the same time.  Meanwhile we also increase our ability to extend upwards - standing and walking tall with grace, confidence and ease.

Read more on this theme in my mini blog post here:

MARCH WORKSHOP

'Yoga for Balance & Peace'

Picture

At Equinox, day & night are of equal length and we will explore this theme by focusing on practices that help to bring balance to body & mind.

Celebrating the season of Spring, we will invite the body to wake up, starting to become more energised and expressive through our practice.  We will look at some more active sequences as well as chest opening & strengthening poses.

Meanwhile the intention is for this workshop to have a backdrop of peace - taking inspiration from the gentle warmth of Spring sunshine and the sight of spring flowers and tree blossoms around us.  A gentle and peaceful unfurling of life.

You can expect Scaravelli-inspired yoga, a sprinkling of somatic movement and also a short time in seated meditation.

'Yoga as a Song of Love'
(no singing required!)

An Imbolc Workshop with Heart

Taking inspiration from the traditional Celtic festival of Imbolc - marking the early shift from Winter towards Spring - along with a nod to St. Valentine's Day, we will focus on postures and practices that can help to open the heart and allow life force or Prana, to flow more freely.  As life begins to stir under the soil outside and new shoots begin to grow, we are invited to reflect on any fresh growth waiting to emerge in our own lives.  This can be held lightly in the background as an open question during our workshop and beyond.  The second invitation is to expand our awareness of the heart, shining the light of love on any parts of ourselves that remain neglected, judged or hidden in the shadows.  Whilst acknowledging that this might be a long-term and in-depth process, the workshop aims to have a light touch.

What does it mean to practice familiar yoga poses with a special awareness on the physical structure of the heart as well as the space around it?  And what does this heart awareness bring to our seasonal theme of emerging new energy?  Planting ourselves firmly in the soil of the natural world, and finding a place of belonging in the connection to ancient rhythms.  Meanwhile coming home to the radiant heart within.  This is an Imbolc Workshop with Heart.  I hope you will join me on this mini February Odyssey!

 YOGA & MEDITATION WORKSHOP

'Strength in Stillness, Stillness in Strength'
Picture
This workshop will incorporate plenty of strengthening yoga poses from standing as well as working on the ground.

We will explore sensations of stability, rootedness, support from the ground and muscular tone & strength.  Noticing how building these aspects in our yoga practice can point us towards an inner sense of quiet and stillness.

We will also spend some time working with quietening breathing techniques, leading towards some guided meditation time as well as short periods of silent sitting (no more than 5mins of silence at time).  With a special focus on the sense of inner strength & simplicity that we might find here in quiet sitting.

This workshop will be offered on two different dates & locations:
Saturday December 2nd 2-4:30pm

Highbury & Islington

AUTUMN WORKSHOP

YOGA,
CONNECTION & WELLBEING
Picture
Focusing on Nervous System Health, through the lens of Polyvagal Theory  (Stephen Porges).  Exploring the ways in which a yoga/somatics practice can support nervous system regulation, balance & resilience.  What are the ways in which we can support the body and mind to handle the pressures and stress of daily life?  What are the ways in which movement, breathing practices and yoga postures can help to stimulate the 'social engagement system' pathway of the nervous system, following the isolating impact of the pandemic, for example.  What role might yoga and similar practices play in supporting nervous system wellbeing across different phases of life?  And how can we adapt our practice according to what is needed from day to day?

Focusing on the magic of fascia (connective tissue) and the way in which fascia responds to different kinds of movement that we might use in yoga & life in general. When our fascia is in good shape we can move more freely and enjoy a natural sense of elasticity. Movement begets movement!
Book Here
When practicing yoga or moving around in our lives we might be aware of our musculoskeletal structure. But what about the connective tissue, or fascia that wraps around each muscle, each bone, each nerve ending..? This collagenous network penetrates and surrounds the whole body, holding us together and allowing us to move as a coherent shape. Did you know that this incredible part of our anatomy has 250 million nerve endings within it and is therefore sometimes thought of as the richest 'sensory organ' of the body? In this workshop we will practice familiar poses with a special focus through the lens of fascia.
